Riding For
Charlie's FreeWheels
Charlie's FreeWheels is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering Toronto's youth by providing them with free bikes, teaching them the skills to maintain them, and creating spaces where youth feel confident and supported. Established in 2009 in memory of Charlie Prinsep, who died tragically at the age of 23 after being hit by a car while on a cross-country bike tour.
All programs are completely free for any youth aged 12-25, and every participant enjoys a home-cooked vegetarian meal during each class. All race proceeds support the Build-A-Bike program, students leave with a helmet, lock, front and back lights, a bell, the bike they built, and the skills to repair it themselves and ride it safely.
